THE FINAL STAGE
Some 9 years after the first thoughts of a new clubhouse were discussed at Committee we now have our fantastic new pavilion.

Positioned central to all of the main sports facilities, it commands a great position for spectators, social events and celebrations in the village.

This is the final stage in the development of new and improved sports, recreation and social facilities for the Club. On completion, nearly £1,000,000 will have been invested in facilities for the village and the surrounding area.

Fund raising started in 2000 with the Millenium Bond where Club Members bought 'Bonds' from £25 up to £500. This raised some £15,000 and helped to kick-start the project as many grants required contributions from the Club's own resources.

Over the years a range of grants have then been secured for different elements of the project and the Committee would like once again to state its heart felt thanks. Without this funding, little would have been possible. Grant aid bodies included:

Sport England Lottery Fund
Football Foundation Grass Roots
Cherwell District Council
Football Foundation Stadia Improvements
Lords Taveners
SITA Trust
Foundation for Sports and Arts
Oxfordshire Community Fund
National Westminster Bank
New Opportunities Green Spaces Fund

Significant contributions have also been made by a number of volunteers that have given freely of thier time to draw up the Vision and then work to bring about a range of fantastic facilities that can be enjoyed by young and not so young, sports men and women and those that prefer more leisurley pursuits in the Clubhouse.

Without these volunteers and those that ensure the smooth running of the Club and its constituent sections, Senior and Junior Cricket; Senior and Junior Football; Senior and Junior Tennis; Harriers; Youth Club and Social Club, the village would not be the same. Hundreds of youngsters have gained the benefit of the safe, healthy activities that are on offer at the club in an environment that is friendly and encourages involvement and integration.
These new facilities will ensure these sort of activities will continue for years to come.

The UN-official opening of the Pavilion should take place on Sunday 24 August and will be the culmination of the project that has seen the following facilities added:

New football pitch
Three new floodlit all weather tennis courts
A floodlit Multi games area
Two new cricket practice nets
Floodlighting and spectator facilities to the existing football pitch
Improved access and off road parking
A multi sports/games wall

The pavilion itself has a wonderful club room overlooking the sports facilities, with bar; new sound and Sky TV systems, fully fitted kitchen; disabled access; a small meeting room and 4 changing rooms with officials changing.

There will also be patio areas for spectators and members to enjoy the summer weather over some refreshments from the bar. Future plans include outdoor games and children’s play. The club will be an ideal venue for Club socials and fundraiser, family celebrations and also for corporate and business meetings.

There remains much work to be done even though the project is coming to completion. A club of this size takes a great deal of time and effort to manage and care for. The General Committee are well on their way to ensuring the new responsibilities that these extended facilities bring will achieve success. But this depends on support from Members.

The Club is a Members Only Club, Though it has an Open access policy so is available for everyone to join. See link to membership.

There also remains the ongoing need to raise funds and you can help by getting involved in BUY-A-BRICK.

We look forward to seeing you soon !!!!

THE FLOODLIGHTS ARE ON

Prior to the kick off the new floodlights were officially switched on when Chairman Mike Barlow made a few introductory words to those present, who included Chairman of the Sport Italia Hellenic League, Bob Dalling and Mrs Dalling, together with a number of local parish councilors.
After which long- serving supporter George Harris lit a symbolic rocket firework which rose into the crisp night sky.
Signaling the floodlights to be switched on, which they duly were.
It was a proud moment for all those closely connected with the Hook Norton club and who have worked so tirelessly to achieve this magnificent end product.
